The Economist magazine has a couple of short articles on:
- the data deluge - including open data, data sharing, linking & data mining, data losses & privacy breaches, and recommending transparency, data breach notification and security audits with published results.
- managing data & information overload - I like "data exhaust" better than "digital footprint", and the prediction that the sexiest job will be "statistician", i.e getting "wisdom" out of the mountains of data!
